Mouthpiece, Hands Tied, Face The Enemy, Triple Threat
Whenever you do a zine you have a master list of people and bands you’d like to interview. Tim was pretty high on that list. Tim’s first band Mouthpiece helped me to keep my faith in Hardcore after a really rough patch where the music that I had grown up with and dedicated my life to was suffering from a serious identity crisis. Most of my favorite bands had either broken up or changed their direction. Most of the bands that dominated the scene were playing Metal and or Thug Core and I couldn’t relate to either. There was plenty of good bands to go around but none of them were playing the style I loved.
Mouthpiece was the band that saved me. I was fortunate enough to see them numerous times at CBGB’s, Wetlands, Middlesex College and City Gardens. They left an indelible mark on me. I got in touch with Tim through My Space and eventually set up a meeting with him in Princeton. We met up at the Princeton Music Exchange on a beautiful, sunny Saturday and did the interview about a block away outside the Library.
Tim is a really easy going, good natured soul. I told him that I got the chills when he told me he loved Unite back in the day and though he had gotten rid of most of his zines over the years Unite was one of the few he kept. As I transcribed the interview I was reminded how animated Tim was throughout the interview. How he tackled every question with this wild, child like enthusiasm. We talked so long that the battery on my iPod died before we could get to the last three or four questions. I thought about editing the interview a bit to trim it up but that’s not the way I like to do things. Here is the interview in all it’s original glory. Enjoy. JD
